GQEBERHA – SAPS Kwadwesi Detectives arrested a robbery suspect and recovered stolen goods and a firearm on Saturday morning, 26 March 2022, in Kwamagaxi.
It is alleged that on Friday, 25 March 2022, at approximately 09:00, the complainant (41) was on his way to work, waiting at a filling station in Kwamagaxi when two suspects, armed with firearms approached him and robbed him of his backpack with tools. He reported the robbery later at SAPS Kwadwesi for further investigation.
During the investigation the detectives received information of a house where the alleged suspects reside. On Saturday, 26 March 2022, at 07:00, the members visited the house and continued to search the premises with the permission of the occupant. During the search, the members arrested a suspect, aged 28, who was hiding in a cupboard. As the search continued the members recovered the backpack with the tools of the complainant. A firearm (serial number filled off), 10 cellphones, 2 TV’s, a computer, female watches, 10 backpacks with personal belongings and a shoe box containing 2.6kg tik were also confiscated.
The drugs and the firearm that were confiscated will be subjected to ballistic testing for further testing. Kwadwesi detectives will attempt to trace the owners of the suspected stolen property, however victims of robbery and theft cases can also visit SAPS Kwadwesi and make enquiries. As part of the investigation they will also look at linking the suspect with other cases. One suspect is still at large. The suspect was arrested on charges of robbery with a firearm, possession of unlicensed firearm, possession of suspected stolen property and possession of drugs. The suspect will appear in the New Brighton Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 28 March 2022.
