Linda Filda Muthana (22), a director of Tanaka Solutions was released on a R2000-00 bail by the Zwelitsha Magistrates’ Court on 28 September 2021 after being arrested by the Hawks’ Serious Corruption Investigation team based in East London for allegations of fraud.
It is alleged that during May 2020, Tanaka Solutions was awarded a tender by the Eastern Cape Department of Education (ECDoE) to supply Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) to 29 schools. Muthana is reported to have unlawfully and intentionally made a misrepresentation to the ECDoE by submitting an invoice in respect of supply and delivery claiming for more items than initially delivered.
The department paid Tanaka Soft Solutions PTY Ltd under the pretence that the delivery included all the goods as per specification. As a result of the misrepresentation, the department was prejudiced cash to the value of more than R98 000-00.
The matter was reported to the Hawks last month for further investigation which culminated in Muthana’s arrest on Tuesday, 28 September 2021. The matter was remanded to 07 October 2021 for defence attorney.
