Alleged gold dealers remanded in custody

GAUTENG – The Wynberg Magistrates court remanded three accused, alleged gold dealers in custody charged with illegal possession and dealing in gold, this morning.

 

The Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation in Germiston and the Pretoria based Precious Metal and Diamond Investigation team received intelligence regarding unknown men allegedly looking for potential gold buyers on social media.

 

The Hawks’ elite investigation team pounced on the suspects at a hotel in Sandton on Monday where 600 grams worth of gold was seized together with the suspects’ vehicles, for further investigation.

 

The trio, Jamal Maleec Aine (38), Bhukenya Isa (32), and Ozzy Barrack (29) were immediately apprehended and charged with illegal possession and dealing in gold.

 

They appeared in court today and the case was postponed to 17 November 2021 for further investigation.
