Alleged fraudster before court

Custodio Solomon Mavie (47) appeared before the Rustenburg Magistrates’ Court today on a charge of fraud. He will remain in custody until his next court appearance on Tuesday, 21 September 2021.

His court appearance comes after initial investigation revealed that he presented a false Identity Document (ID), which belongs to a deceased person at a mine in Rustenburg. He was later transferred to a mine in Mpumalanga for employment and applied for the Covid-19 relief fund (UIF). Upon realising that the ID he presented for employment, was fraudulent, the authorities reported him to the police. The suspect was traced and arrested.

The Provincial Commissioner of North West, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena, said the police will continue to work hard to ensure that people who commit commercial crimes are successfully prosecuted.
