KARIEGA – Unyielding efforts by various law enforcers to effectively address crime in Kariega paid off last night, Sunday, 12 June 2022, when an alleged business robber was apprehended.

It is alleged that five male suspects (two armed with firearms) entered a supermarket in Durban Street, Kariega at about 19:15 and pointed staff members with firearms. The suspects demanded cash and took groceries, cellphones and a laptop. Meanwhile, private security officials and members from Uitenhage K9 arrived at the scene, saw the suspects and gave chase. Uitenhage K9 members managed to apprehend one 24-year-old suspect with the assistance of Razor in Uys Street, Kariega. everal stolen items were found in his possession and was handed in as evidence.

The search for the other four outstanding suspects who managed to evade arrest is continuing. More arrests are expected soon.

The 24-year-old suspect is due to appear in the Kariega Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, 15 June 2022 on a charge of armed robbery.
