Acting Provincial Commissioner launches Safer Festive Season Operation in Nelson Mandela District

The MEC for Community Safety and Transport in the Eastern Cape, Ms Weziwe Tikana-Gxothiwe and the Acting Provincial Commissioner, Major General Zithulele Dladla with other law enforcement agencies descended to the Nelson Mandela District for the launch of the Provincial Safer Festive Season Operations in Gqeberha today.

 

The event, started in the morning, with the MEC for Community Safety and Transport, Ms Weziwe Tikana-Gxothiwe visiting the South African Police Service Motherwell in the company of the acting Provincial Commissioner, Major General Zithulele Dladla and other dignitaries from the law enforcement agencies. A motorcade proceeded to the shopping malls, local taxi ranks with several stops in between the areas, to mobilise and address communities to be safe during the festive period. Static displays, exhibitions and tactical demonstrations brought a wonderful spectacle to the event.

 

The acting Provincial Commissioner, Major General Zithulele Dladla in his overview, “As we launch this Operation Festive Season, we are also calling on various stakeholders in the Justice Cluster as well as all crime fighting institutions within the communities to carry this message to be spread at this time of the festive season.  In line with our theme: “Country in Blue: Extending our reach through Blue Light visibility. We urge the community to rally behind our crusade against crime, as we paint and extend our reach through blue light visibility”, concluded Maj Gen Dladla. An additional fleet of 64 new vehicles were handed over to the eight District Commissioners for their respective units and stations to increase police visibility.

 

The functionary, MEC for Community Safety and Transport, Ms Weziwe Tikana-Gxothiwe said, “The Operation Festive Season is about re-affirming the State’s authority and its unwavering drive to protect its citizens at the time when their safe be it their physical safety, and even financial safety comes under threat from criminals. She concluded by urging communities to commit in making refocused Safer Festive Season the success it needs to be.
