Bloemfontein: The Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court have on 23 January 2025 sentenced Mabone Julius Moshopje (34) for fraud, after pleading guilty.
According to South African Police Service, on 15 May 2013, the complainant in the case received an alert from her bank that her bank card was used to purchase clothing items amounting to R2005.00 at Markhams stores at Twin City mall in Bloemfontein, whereas she was in Pretoria at the time. She reported the matter to the police and a case docket was registered then referred to the Bloemfontein based Hawks Serious Commercial Crime Investigation for further investigation. The accused was traced and arrested, appeared in court and was granted bail.
He then failed to reappear in court and issued with a warrant of arrest.
Moshopje was sentenced and ordered to pay a fine of R6000.00 or undergo three months imprisonment wholly suspended for five years on condition that he is not convicted of fraud during the period of suspension.
