Accused sentenced for dealing in drugs

EASTERN CAPE - The East London Magistrates’ Court sentenced Sinazo Mcitakali on 20 February 2023 for dealing in drugs.

On 14 February 2022, East London Visible Policing (Vispol) members were busy with routine patrols on Station Street when they noticed Mcitakali who acted suspiciously. On approaching her, the members discovered that she was carrying two plastic bags containing 1278 mandrax tablets worth R31 950. The matter was immediately referred to the East London based Hawks' South African Narcotics Enforcement Bureau for further probing.

Mcitakali was arrested on the spot. She appeared in East London Magistrates’ Court and was released on R1000 bail. Mcitakali made a series of court appearances until her ultimate conviction and sentencing. She was given five months direct imprisonment alternatively pay R5000 fine.
