Accused remanded in custody for killing his wife’s friend

POTCHEFSTROOM – A 41-year-old Simphiwe Nqakaqa was remanded in custody when he appeared in the Rustenburg Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, 15 December 2021. Nqakaqa appeared in court for allegedly stabbing and killing his wife’s friend.

According to information received, the accused attempted on Saturday night, 11 December 2021, to commit suicide by drinking a poison, but the wife and her friend arrived while he was still lying in bed. Reports suggest that the wife and the friend questioned the accused about him drinking the poison. Out of anger, the accused allegedly stabbed his wife’s 31-year-old friend with a knife on the upper body. The victim was transported to a local hospital where she was certified dead.

Meanwhile, the accused drank another poison and was also transported to hospital where he was treated and discharged on Sunday, 12 December 2021. He was subsequently arrested and appeared in court. The accused is expected to reappear at the same court for a formal bail application on Wednesday, 22 December 2021.

The Provincial Commissioner of North West, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena, condemned the incident and once more urged members of the community to always strive for peaceful and acceptable ways of resolving their social challenges.
