Accused handed twenty year sentence for murder

WESTERN CAPE - As women are celebrating woman’s month they have some more to celebrate after Desmond Leroy Williams was handed a 20 year sentence for the murder of Belinda Hector.

The 27-year-old, Desmond Leroy Williams was found guilty for the murder of Belinda Hector on 02 August 2022, in the Wynberg Regional Magistrate Court.

It was proven beyond a reasonable doubt that the accused murdered the 52-year-old victim on 13 October 2017 when he indiscriminately fired shots, causing her death during gang violence in Letaba Street, Manenberg. He pulled the trigger and fired that fatal shot with the firearm that he had in his hands. This was proven without a doubt that the weapon he had in his hands killed her instantly.

The victim was caught in crossfire and Manenberg SAPS detective worked with the community providing the evidence needed to successfully prosecute and convict Desmond Leroy Williams of murder and sending him to prison for twenty years direct imprisonment. He was only 22-years-old at the time of this heinous crime that snatched away the life of Belinda.

The Western Cape Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Thembisile Patekile lauded the detective and the prosecution team for their hard work and dedication in securing this sentence.
