MPUMALANGA –Tonderai Mushai (29) Zimbabwean national, was found guilty and sentenced by the Boshfontein Regional Court on Thursday, 10 March 2022 for attempted murder. He was sentenced to three years imprisonment or R10 000-00 fine of which one year is suspended. The accused was sent to serve two years in prison since he did not have money to pay.
The accused was arrested on 17 November 2021 whilst driving a truck with trailers on the N4 road, nearly ran over a traffic officer who was directing trucks at Komatipoort port of entry towards Mozambique. After he was arrested and detained, another truck driver Patrick Ncube (21) approached the complainant (traffic officer) and offered him a gratification of R10 000-00 in order for the attempted murder case to be cancelled.
He was then arrested immediately after he handed over the money to the agent and he was detained. He made several court appearances where he was denied bail. The accused is still in custody. He will appear before the Boshfontein Regional Court on 28 March 2022.
