56-year-old fraud accused sentenced to 5 years imprisonment

WESTERN CAPE - SAPS Management in the Western Cape welcomes the conviction of a 56-year-old female who was arrested in May 2021 for allegedly swindling a commercial bank.

On 19 September 2020, the accused applied for asset finance to purchase a vehicle valued at R194 871-02. It was later discovered that she used fraudulent bank statements and payslips in the application. The matter was escalated to the Provincial Commercial Crimes Investigation unit. Following an intense investigation, the suspect was arrested on 03 May 2022 and the vehicle was recovered. The 56-year-old suspect entered into a plea agreement and she was sentenced to 5 years imprisonment suspended for three years and two years of corrective supervision.
