29 Years imprisonment for three armed robbers

GAUTENG – Mamelodi East SAPS management welcomes the hefty sentence handed to three men aged between 38 and 50 years old for armed robbery.

 

The Pretoria Regional Court sentenced Johannes Nkosi, Sipho Piet Maimela and Sydney Ngobela for armed robbery possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunitions and kidnapping.

 

On Thursday, 12 April 2012 at about 09:00, members of Mamelodi East Crime Prevention Unit were busy with their normal duties when they received information to lookout for a Nissan Skyline and VW Caddy that just robbed a Tobacco van in cullinan. While patrolling they noticed vehicles matching descriptions given to them driving at high speed in Solomon Mahlangu drive. They chased the vehicle and managed to stop them. They searched the vehicle and found unlicensed firearm and ammunitions and suspected stolen property. The three African men were arrested and detained at Mamelodi East SAPS.

 

Detective Constable Onismus Masha was assigned to investigate the docket. Through a thorough investigation the three accused were found guilty and sentenced as follows:

 

  1. Armed robbery – 15 years’ imprisonment

 

  1. Possession of unlicensed firearm -7 year’s imprisonment

 

  1. Possession of ammunitions – 2 years’ imprisonment

 

  1. Kidnapping- 5 years’ imprisonment

 

Mamelodi East SAPS management believe this sentence will send a strong message to other people who think of committing similar offense and commends the investigating officer for the good work.
