25 Years behind bars for rape of elderly woman

NOUPOORT – The SAPS Management welcomes the 25 years sentence that was handed down to Thembilihle Kokera (22) in the Colesberg Regional Court, recently.

 

On the morning of 18 April 2020, Kokera broke into the Noupoort home of an 82-year-old woman where he accosted and raped her.

 

The victim informed the police and the fleeing suspect was apprehended and arrested a week later. Kokera was remanded in custody until his sentencing on 24 November 2021.

 

The Provincial Head for Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offenses (FCS) Unit, Brigadier Nicky Mills commended Detective Warrant Officer Edwin Mokgalagadi of the De Aar FCS Unit for his meticulous investigation that ensured that no impunity is granted to perpetrators of such heinous crimes.

 

This sentence is welcomed as the country is observing 16 Days of Activism for no violence against women and children.
