Musina: A 24-year-old foreign national male suspect, Jabulani Mayuyu, arrested for possession of counterfeit goods valued at an estimated R20,000, appeared before the Musina Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, 23 January 2025. He was remanded in custody until 29 January 2025, for further police investigations. The arrest follows an operation on Wednesday afternoon, 22 January 2025, by the Mission Area Joint Operation Centre (MAJOC) Roving Team, the National Team deployed in Limpopo under Vala Umgodi.
According to South African Police Service, the team was conducting a routine vehicle checkpoint along the N1 in Musina when they received a tip-off from a reliable source regarding counterfeit goods at the MOJ Petroleum truck depot near the border. Acting on the information, the team proceeded to the location and discovered large quantities of illicit goods, which have been found abandoned. The recovered counterfeit goods included three boxes of Adidas sneakers, each containing 30 pairs; nine boxes of Nike sneakers, each containing 30 pairs; one box of Converse All-Star sneakers, containing 40 pairs; one box of Nike Jordan Lakers vests; and four boxes of Nike sneakers, each containing 30 pairs.
Initially, the goods were booked as abandoned after being found unattended. However, further investigation led to the identification and arrest of the suspect for possession of counterfeit goods.
This operation highlights the ongoing efforts by the police to swiftly address illegal activities and ensure that offenders are held accountable. Investigations are ongoing.
