Mitchells Plain police are seeking the assistance of the public to identify the body of a male

WESTERN CAPE – Mitchells Plain Police members attended a crime scene on Sunday 14 August 2022. Upon their arrival at Calypso Square Town Centre, they found the body of an unknown man, dressed in red pants, a black shirt, blue jeans and black socks. Reports suggested that the deceased was a homeless person. The unknown man was later identified as Johannes Brand through fingerprints taken of the body that was analysed.

Anyone with information or that can identify the deceased is kindly requested to call the investigating officer detective Warrant Officer Vuvan Claassen on 021 370 1683 or alternatively call Crime Stop on 08600 10111.

Help police find missing Aphelele Qansane

WELKOM – Police are investigating a case of a missing person following the disappearance of Aphelele Qansane who was last seen in Riebeeckstad in October 2022.

It is not known what he was wearing at the time of his disappearance.

SAPS Humewood arrest suspects with stolen property

GQEBERHA – While police in Gqeberha are out in their numbers ensuring the safety of the people in the metro, an appeal is also made to the communities to be responsible and take the necessary precautions for their own safety as well as their property.

Last night, 20 December 2022 at about 23:30, SAPS Humewood members arrested 6 suspects found in possession of property allegedly stolen out of a vehicle parked in the street while the driver was fast asleep.

It is alleged that police spotted a person walking in Lawrence Street in Central with 2 x 6 pack of beer in his possession. On questioning the male, he offered various explanations as to the possession which was followed up by police and confirmed to be lies. Further investigations led police to Bird Street where they found the driver still asleep with the back window, broken. They woke up the driver who was oblivious of the break in.

Follow up investigation directed police to an accommodation in Pearson Street where 5 occupants were found (3 females and two males). All the stolen property taken from the car which included liquor, clothing and a large amount of cash was found and positively identified by the owner.

All six suspects aged between 28 and 36 years old were detained on charges of theft out of motor vehicle and possession of suspected stolen property.

They are expected to appear in court soon.

Police are appealing to people that during this time of the year, year-end parties are taking place and everyone is in the festive mood therefore arrangements must be made prior for party goers to be picked up so as to avoid situations like this when people are too drunk or tired to drive home. Valuable items should never be left in the vehicle in view of anyone.

Suspect seen on video assaulting a police officer in Springs has been arrested

PARKTOWN – The Police in Springs arrested a suspect who had assaulted a police officer following a confrontation during a routine patrol on Tuesday, 20 December 2022. The incident was recorded on video that is currently circulating on social media.

It is reported that two members on routine patrol came across about five people drinking in public. When the police warned them about public drinking, one of the men turned on the male police officer. The suspect then fled the scene. Back-up was called and the suspect was arrested later in the evening.

He has been charged with assaulting a police officer and he will appear before the Springs Magistrates Court on Thursday, 22 December 2022.

Hit man was arrested

GAUTENG – The Hawks Tactical Operations Management Section (TOMS), Gauteng Traffic Saturation unit together with Bad boys security members successfully arrested a hit man at Mofolo in Gauteng.

It is alleged that on Wednesday, 21 December 2022 an intelligence driven joint operation followed up on a tip-off regarding an alleged hit.

The team went to the identified address of the alleged hit man and fortunately the suspect was at his residence. The multi-disciplinary team approached the suspect tactically as the information was that he has a firearm.

Upon searching the room a pistol was found hidden in a wardrobe and a box of ammunition. A further search of the room resulted in more ammunition including that of AK47 as well as .45 special. The pistol was circulated and tested positive on a Roodeport case.

Suspects arrested and stolen property recovered in unrelated cases

GQEBERHA – SAPS Mount Road members and two private security companies secured the arrest of four suspects and succeeded in recovering the stolen property in two unrelated incidents last night, 20 December 2022.

It is alleged that on Tuesday 20 December 2022 at approximately 18:30 the complainant arrived home in Myrtle Street, North End and parked his car a Ford Figo in the garage, locking it and also activating the alarm. At 19:26 the complainant was informed by a private security company of the theft of his tyres. The complainant noticed that a door leading into the garage was forced open and that two of his tyres were removed. A window was also broken and the spare wheel stolen out of the vehicle. It is further alleged that the 22- year-old suspect was arrested after the security officials noticed a red bakkie driving with tyres on the back. The vehicle was stopped in Middle Street in North End and as the suspect arrested.

In another unrelated incident another private security company were doing way lay duties in the vicinity of Paterson Road and Darling Streets on Tuesday 20 December 2022 due to an ongoing concern with regard to the theft of solar panels. At about 23:30 the security guards found two males and a female who are residing in a shack near by the Darling Street bridge in North End. Next to the shack was a big black tarpaulin that was covering something. Upon further investigation they found 21 solar panels underneath the canvas and arrested the three suspects aged 29 to 36. The value of the solar panels is estimated at R420 000. They are detained on charges of possession of suspected stolen property.

The four suspects will appear in the Gqeberha magistrate court during the week on their respective charges.

The Acting District Commissioner, Brig Ronald Koll commended the private security companies for their involvement in the fight against crime. ‘Fighting crime is an integrated effort and the SAPS acknowledges the good work of other law enforcement agencies including private security companies who play an integral role in the safety of residents,’ added Brig Koll.

Media Invitation: Inspection of Festive Season police Operations continues in Cape Town

WESTERN CAPE – The Minister of Police, General Bheki Cele will on Thursday, 22 December 2022, lead the annual Festive Season Inspection Roadshow in Cape Town in the Western Cape province.

The visit forms part of efforts by the South African Police Service (SAPS), to channel resources to areas where they are most needed.

The policing interventions will enable the police to decisively deal with crime and any security threats this holiday season and beyond.

Under the theme, “More boots on the ground towards enhanced police visibility,” the Ministry together with the SAPS management team from national and the province, led by National Commissioner, General Fannie Masemola and the Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General, Thembisile Patekile, will assess the effectiveness of the SAPS’ Safer Festive Season operational plans put in place, to ensure the well-being and safety of all residents and tourists in the country, during the holiday period.

The Western Cape leg of the Roadshow will include visits to malls, taxi ranks, multi-disciplinary roadblocks and beaches where shoppers, commuters and holidaymakers will be engaged on safety aspects during the holiday season and beyond.

Members of the media are invited to attend the Roadshow.
