Community tip-off leads to the recovery of an unlicensed firearm, ammunition and suspected stolen property in Zonkizizwe

ZONKIZIZWE – Members of SAPS Zonkizizwe arrested four suspects in Zonkizizwe Zone 3 on Monday, 11 April 2022 for unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition as well as possession of presumed stolen property.

A community member reportedly provided information on criminal activities in the area to the police. The suspects’ vehicle was shortly intercepted and a search led the SAPS members to recover an unlicensed firearm, ammunition and presumed stolen property.

The firearm will be subjected to ballistic tests to determine whether it may be linked to other serious crimes committed.

The Station Commander of SAPS Zonkizizwe, Lieutenant Colonel Albert Chauke welcomed the arrests and thanked the community members for supporting the police in the fight against crime in the community.

Magaliesburg SAPS in partnership with Stock Theft Information Centre (STIC) recover stolen livestock

GAUTENG – The Rural Safety team of SAPS Magaliesburg arrested a 46-year-old man in Kaalfontein on Monday, 11 April 2022 for stock theft.

Police in collaboration with a representative of Stock Theft Information Centre (STIC) followed up on leads following an incident of stock theft on one of the farms in Kaalfontein.

The team detected a suspicious looking white minibus in the veld. Upon further investigation police found 17 sheep inside the minibus and arrested the man.

Further investigation is still underway to determine if the suspect may be linked to similar cases in and around Gauteng Province.

Station Commander of SAPS Magaliesburg, Lieutenant Colonel Mawewe Vuma lauded the Rural Safety team for the recovery and arrest.

Eastern Cape SAPS Senior Management consoles victim’s family in OR Tambo District

MTHATHA- SAPS Senior Management joined a number of stakeholders during a visit at the family of a female murder victim in Bhaziya Locality in OR Tambo District on Monday, 11 April 2022. The 12-year-old girl was reportedly raped and murdered recently in the area. The perpetrator was allegedly murdered by members of the community.

Brigadier Tembinkosi Kinana, who represented Provincial Senior Management, condemned the act and called upon all stakeholders and community to join hands in the fight against criminality, especially gender-based violence in every environment.

He discouraged mob justice and encouraged members of the community to report criminality to the police, as he characterized the act of mob justice as unlawful. He further explained the commitment of the South African Police Service in fighting crime as means of ensuring safety and security of every community.

Brigadier Kinana, on behalf of SAPS Senior Management, consoled and conveyed condolences to the bereaved family.

Stepfather handed 15 years imprisonment for murder in Phillipstown

PIXLEY KA SEME CLUSTER – The SAPS welcomes the 15 years’ imprisonment sentence that was handed down to murder accused, Aubrey Nel (35) in the Phillipstown Regional Court, today.

On 23 April 2021, at approximately 13:30, the stepfather, Aubrey Nel and his stepson had an altercation which resulted in the fatal stabbing of Duwayne Snyers (15).

The incident occurred in Riemvasmak, Philipstown and the accused was immediately arrested. He remained in custody until his sentencing on 12 April 2022.

The Pixley Ka Seme Cluster Commander, Brigadier Nomana Adonis lauded the investigating officer, Detective Constable Herald Saunders for his meticulous investigation that led to the incarceration of the accused.
