NORTHERN CAPE – The De Aar Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences unit under the command of Capt Wiets Coetzee reached out to the communities of Sunrise and Nonzwakazi during door to door visits in commemoration of Youth Day on 16 June and Youth month. The team reached out to hundreds of people and educated them about gender based violence.
The public was educated and received information about interdicts (protection orders) and the importance of saying “No” to abuse while pamphlets relating to gender based violence and drug awareness was distributed.
This year marks the 45th anniversary of the 16 June 1976 student uprising in Soweto.
This year National Youth Day and Youth Month will be celebrated under the theme: “The Year of Charlotte Mannya Maxeke: Growing youth employment for an inclusive and transformed society.”
