Woman who reported a false case of hijacking among 650 people arrested during O Kae Molao Operation

GAUTENG – Acting Provincial Commissioner of the police in Gauteng Major General Tommy Mthombeni led O Kae Molao Operation in Tshwane on Thursday 08 July 2021 where law enforcement officers pounced on premises where new and second hand car parts are sold. Upon searching the place police recovered parts of vehicles that were reported stolen and hijacked. These vehicles include Audi R57, Mercedes Benz A Class and Hyundai Creta. The owner of a Hyundai Creta was traced and upon interviewing her, it was established that she voluntarily sold her car to the second hand dealership to be stripped and later opened a false case of car hijacking at Pretoria North police station. The 50-year-old woman was arrested and charged with perjury.

The operations started with the tracing of wanted suspects across the province. Police were able to find 640 of the suspects who committed crime that include murder, assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, rape, sexual assault, robbery and car hijacking.

In enforcing compliance with Disaster Management Act, police had to turn back more than 50 cars that were entering and leaving Gauteng as drivers did not have permits as it is required during level four lockdown regulations.

Arrested suspects will appear at various Magistrate’s Courts in due course.
