SARAH BAARTMAN – The suspicious movements of two men at the taxi rank was a clue to their alleged criminal activity, which resulted to their arrest and the recovery of suspected stolen water pump in Makhanda today, 04 August 2021.
On Wednesday, 4 August 2021 around 12:45, it is alleged that police officers who were wearing civilian clothes, were at the taxi rank in Market Street, Makhanda when they noticed suspicious movements of two men, with a bag next to them. The two were monitored, and police patrol vehicle was alerted to be on standby when needed. A patrol vehicle immediately pounced on the two as soon as the two started walking away with a bag.
The two men were found in possession of a water pump, and could not give a satisfactory account when questioned about the item. The two men aged 32 and 33 were arrested and are due to appear in the Makhanda Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, 5 August 2021 on charges of possession of suspected stolen property.
Acting District Commissioner, Brigadier John Lebok praised officers for their alertness and congratulated them for a sterling job. “Detectives are going to profile the two men, and possibly link them to other crimes”, added Brig Lebok
