Two firearms and six cattle recovered during police operation in Amangwe

DURBAN – A joint operation was held yesterday afternoon in the Amangwe policing area to remove illegal firearms that are in the hands of criminals.

The team proceeded to Nkomozini area where they spotted a taxi with three occupants. The vehicle was pulled over and the men were searched. One of the occupants aged 20 years was found in possession of a 9mm pistol with 15 rounds of ammunition.

Police proceeded to Ngonyameni area when they spotted a vehicle stationary on the side of the road. The driver was approached and a search was conducted. A 57-year-old suspect was found in possession of a revolver with four rounds of ammunition. Both suspects were placed under arrest for unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition.

Six cattle suspected to be stolen were found abandoned in the Amangwe area. The suspects are appearing before the Estcourt Magistrates Court today.
