FREE STATE – Joseph Mphunga (57) and Norah Ramona (34) as well as Florina Kwenagae (30) appeared before the Wepener Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 07 June 2021 where they were sentenced for corruption.
Their sentencing originates from an incident which took place during February 2020 where the trio approached a police official and offered her R2000 to get rid of a human trafficking case against the wife of Mphunga. The police official reported the matter and an operation was then conducted which led to the arrest of the trio. Mphunga, Ramona and Kwenagae were convicted on Tuesday, 24 May 2021 and they were remanded in custody until their sentencing yesterday.
The court sentenced Mphunga to 4 years direct imprisonment or R20 000 fine. Both Ramona and Kwenagae were sentenced to 4 years direct imprisonment or R20 000 fine of which half of the R20 000 is suspended for 5 years.
