Serious and violent crimes as well as the illegal possession of firearms are high on the priority list of the Western Cape police and our efforts are aimed to reduce the number of firearms in the wrong hands. With this in mind, members of the Provincial Integrated Team set their sights on a residence in Makhaza last night after being tipped off that a suspect is in possession of an unlicensed firearm. The premises was searched and a 31-year-old suspect was arrested in possession of a 9mm pistol and ammunition. He is expected to make his court appearance in Khayelitsha tomorrow.
In an unrelated police intervention, a suspect was arrested in Lentegeur, also with an unlicensed firearm and ammunition last night. He is also due to make his court appearance in Mitchells Plain tomorrow.
Members of the Flying Squad were hot in pursuit of a suspect in Langa yesterday after he appeared suspicious. He managed to evade arrest, but dropped his firearm which was seized. The suspect is still being sought.
Lockdown compliance inspections in Mfuleni last night led to the seizure of a substantial quantity of liquor after the Disaster Management Act was defied. The circumstances are being investigated.
