kWAZULU-NATAL – An investigation conducted by the SAPS and Metro police together with private security company yielded successful results when they arrested two wanted suspects for theft of a motor vehicle. On 8 July 2021 at 10:30, the two friends aged between 24 and 29, were caught in the act stripping a vehicle they had stolen at Point.
When they spotted police approaching, the suspects ran to hide inside the house. Police managed to gain access and the suspects were arrested.
The two men were found in possession of a 9mm pistol with no serial number, a magazine and 18 rounds of ammunition. Inside the house police recovered twenty nine vehicle keys, two computer towers, six chassis part printers, twelve pairs of registration plates, three ignition sets, key chip, gloves, screw drivers, various motor vehicle registration certificates, four vin tag stickers with other items and the vehicle that was stolen from Point. Police officers also recovered another vehicle at the suspect’s home which was allegedly hired and was used to commit offences. The suspect’s cellphones were also seized.
A 57-year-old woman alleged that on 8 July at 10:30 she parked her vehicle at Samora Machel Street in Point area. When she returned to the parking she noticed that the vehicle had been stolen. A case of theft of motor vehicle was opened at Point police station for investigation.
The police together with a private security company followed up on information which led them to Umlazi Z Section. The stolen vehicle was recovered after the suspects were caught in the act of stripping it. They were arrested and taken to Umlazi police station for further processing.
The suspects appeared in the Umlazi Magistrate’s Court today for theft of motor vehicle, possession of suspected stolen goods and illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.
