WESTERN CAPE – On Wednesday, 07 July 2021 at 11:00, members of Public Order Police (POPS) Faure received information of dagga being cultivated at a premises in Maynardt Street, Strand. A search warrant was obtained where after the premises was searched. At the premises a hydroponic dagga laboratory was uncovered, 388 plants and equipment were seized. Two suspects, aged 35 and 61 were arrested on charges of dealing in dagga and cultivation of dagga. The estimated street value of the dagga is R465 600.
In an unrelated matter on 07 July 2021 at 16:00, members of Public Order Police (POPS) Faure, received further information regarding another premises situated at a premises in Irene Street, Monte Sereno, Somerset West were dagga is also being cultivated. The premises was searched and members discovered an indoor dagga cultivation laboratory. Large quantities of dagga, dagga plants and equipment that the suspect use to plant the dagga have been seized. The value is still to be determined, but it is estimated at a substantial amount. A 44-year-old suspect was arrested on charges of dealing in dagga and cultivation of dagga.
The suspects are due to appear in the Strand and Somerset West courts today, 09 July 2021, on the mentioned charges.
