WESTERN CAPE- Ladismith: A 60-year-old suspect is scheduled to appear in the Ladismith Magistrates’ court on Monday, 19 July after police found drugs with an estimated street value of R50 000 in his possession.
On Friday, 16 July 2021 at about members attached to the Ladismith police conducted a vehicle check point at South Street, Ladismith when they stopped a minibus taxi which was enroute from Cape Town to Oudtshoorn. A search of the vehicle ensued when the members found 1010 Mandrax tablets in the possession of one of the occupants on board. They confiscated the drugs and arrested the man on a charge of dealing in drugs.
Preliminary investigation indicates that the drugs was destined for distribution in Oudtshoorn.
In an unrelated matter, the Uniondale police members armed with a search warrant conducted an operation at a house at Lyonville, Uniondale on Thursday, 15 July 2021. They proceeded with a search of the premises when they found small quantities of Tik, dagga and an undisclosed amount of cash. The police arrested a 29 year old suspect on a charge of dealing in drugs. He will appear in court once charged.
Acting Eden Cluster Commander, Brigadier Phumzile Cetyana, commended the members for the arrests and subsequent confiscations. He thanked the members for their efforts to rid communities of drugs and warned perpetrators involved in the illicit drug trade that they will meet the full might of the law once arrested.
