DURBAN – Police officers from the K9 Unit received a report yesterday regarding a vehicle that was hijacked in the Mariannhill Park area. The said vehicle was also used to hijack a truck and kidnap the driver.
It is alleged that earlier in the morning a woman was held up at gunpoint on Rudolph Road in Mariannhill Park. At gunpoint, two men who were wearing balaclavas forced the victim out of her vehicle. The suspects fled the scene with victim’s vehicle as well as their vehicle, leaving the woman stranded.
Police received information that the vehicle was spotted in Tshelimnyama and they proceeded to the identified area. Upon their arrival, the vehicle was found abandoned and members of the public pointed out the direction in which the suspects had fled to. Police immediately followed the trail of the suspects and a 27-year-old man was arrested.
The suspect was found in possession of a firearm and two rounds of ammunition as well as stolen property. The suspect will appear in court soon. Police are still on the trail of a second suspect who managed to flee the scene.
