Government to host Dr Kenneth Kaunda tribute webinar
As the African continent continues to mourn the passing of Dr Kenneth David Buchizya Mutepa Kaunda, Government through the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture (DSAC) and its agency, National Heritage Council (NHC) in partnership with Government Communication and Information System (GCIS) will host the Kenneth Kaunda Tribute Webinar.
The event will be hosted on Monday, 05 July 2020 with Minister Nathi Mthethwa scheduled to deliver opening remarks.
Hosted under the theme: “Celebrating the Life & Legacy of Dr Kenneth Kaunda”, webinar will pay homage to Dr Kenneth Kaunda, the former President of the Republic of Zambia, who passed away at the age of 97 on 17 June 2021. Dr Kaunda, who was fondly known as ‘KK’, was an outstanding African leader and a true son of the African soil. South Africa, like many of the then Frontline States, owes her freedom and independence to this gallant statesman, a jovial man, a musician, a sportsman and, above all, a true and sincere African liberator.
During the webinar, a panel comprised of distinguished scholars and notable liberation stalwarts will reflect and celebrate the life and legacy of Dr Kaunda, a Pan-Africanist and an internationalist of note, a leader par excellence. Panellists among others will include South Africa’s liberation struggle heroines, Aunt Sophie Du Bruyn, a very close friend and family friend of Dr Kaunda, Mr Isaac Nkama, an African Scholar on the liberation of the Southern Africa countries, Mr Chris Chirwa, and Her Excellency Amira Elfadil, African Union Commissioner for Social Affairs.
