POLOKWANE – The SAPS Mopani District Women’s Network, paid a courtesy visit to show compassion to the family of a 35-year-old mother who allegedly poisoned herself and the kids to death in Rotterdam village in the Hlanganani Policing area outside Giyani under the Mopani District, on Tuesday, 17 August 2021.

The visit was led by the District Commissioner, Major General Maggy Mathebula accompanied by the District Vispol Commander, Brigadier Marry Mashila, and the Station Commander of Hlanganani SAPS, Lieutenant Colonel Ngobeni and the Section Commander of Investigations, Captain Marivate.

The purpose of the visit, was to give support and investigate the living conditions of the family, after a 35-year-old woman allegedly poisoned herself and her kids to death. The reason for this poisoning incident is alleged to be perpetuated by financial burdens. However, the six-year-old daughter miraculously survived the poisoning and is reportedly still recovering in hospital where she is in a stable condition.

The preliminary Police investigations revealed that the family lives under adverse poverty as they only depend on government’s social grants for a living.

The SAPS Mopani Women’s Network pledged to donate food and other necessities to assist the family to make the end meets.

Major General Mathebula offered words of condolences to the family and urged community members, with emphasis to women, as the country is still observing Women’s Month, to consult with social workers, spiritual leaders, family and other community leaders for psychological assistance while under pressing circumstances rather than taking their lives.
