Partial closure of Macassar Beach extended for removal of temporary desalination infrastructure

Operations to remove infrastructure linked to the temporary Monwabisi desalination plant will continue at Macassar Beach between Tuesday, 1 June and Thursday, 10 June 2021. Beachgoers can still enjoy access to the bathing area while operations are underway.

The dismantling of the temporary Monwabisi desalination plant’s intake pipeline at Macassar Beach will continue through next week, near the demarcated bathing area. This extension is due to unexpected complications in the removal operation.

Beachgoers are advised that continued closure of a section of the beach is necessary for public safety.

The rest of the facilities at Macassar will remain open for public use. Once the intake pipeline has been fully removed, the City will ensure that the area is restored to the same condition as before.

The City wants to thank residents in advance for their patience and cooperation.
