The City of Cape Town’s Transport Directorate will close a section of the Philip Kgosana Drive outbound lane from Cape Town while working on stabilising the slope along this roadway. At least one lane will always be open to traffic in both directions, however, traffic moving in both directions along Philip Kgosana Drive will be affected. Read more below:
 

The works commenced today, 5 July 2021, and is scheduled to be undertaken over a period of approximately six months, pending unforeseen delays and inclement weather.

Work will take place on weekdays from 09:00 to 15:00; and on Saturdays from 08:00 to 16:00. Night work is not planned at this stage, but if needed, this will take place between 20:00 and 04:00, and on Sundays for 24 hours.

To regulate traffic flow, work areas will be temporarily demarcated and flag personnel will be on duty. The City will also have signage in place to direct motorists. Thus, we urge motorists to exercise extra caution when moving around the construction site and to please comply with the displayed signage.

Traffic flow will mostly be affected during the afternoon peak hour period and we anticipate that there will be congestion. Thus, the City recommends that motorists consider using alternative routes.

Philip Kgosana Drive is a dual carriageway between Hospital Bend and Roeland Street in the CBD. The road winds along the higher slopes of Table Mountain with spectacular views of the mountain, Lion’s Head, the city bowl, and the Atlantic. Scenic as it is, the location of the road makes it prone to erosion and rock falls, particularly during the rainy season.
