Pair arrested for housebreaking and theft in Jeffreys bay

SARAH BAARTMAN – Partnership policing led to the arrest of two men for housebreaking and theft following a high speed chase on the N2 yesterday.

On Wednesday, 14 July 2021 at about 12:30, it is alleged that a homeowner in Silver Tree Road, Wavecrest, Jeffreys Bay contacted his neighbour after an alarm activated from his house. It is alleged that a neighbour saw two men and a silver Chevrolet Aveo in the premises. A description of the vehicle was conveyed to the control room of a private security company, which also contacted the police for assistance. Several other patrol vehicles including from a private security company quickly responded, and a vehicle fitting the description was spotted travelling on the N2 at high speed and was pursued.

Suspects’ vehicle stalled near Thornhill on the N2, two suspects alighted and started running. Both suspects were arrested after scaling thick shrubs trying to evade arrest. From a vehicle, police recovered a plasma TV. The two men aged 25 and 34 are due to appear in the Humansdorp Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 16 July 2021 on charges of housebreaking and theft.
