Statement by the City’s Executive Mayor, Dan Plato
The top 10 contestants were announced yesterday.
The grand finale for Miss South Africa 2021 will be taking place in Cape Town for a second consecutive year, with the winner being crowned at the Grand West Arena in October.
Last year, we successfully hosted the grand event during a pandemic, showcasing Cape Town’s capabilities of hosting safe and incident free events.
It is a real privilege for us to be welcoming Miss South Africa back to Cape Town, after hosting the 62nd edition last year.
This morning I had the pleasure of meeting the Miss South Africa 2021 finalists.
Miss South Africa is an iconic South African event that has over the years made the dreams of many young women a reality and helped them to draw attention to important issues in our society.
Looking at this current cohort of Miss South Africa candidates, I firmly believe these young women are future leaders.
Among the top 10, we have doctors, lawyers, women in construction and future leaders in the fashion industry.
I would like to wish them well in their journey to becoming Miss South Africa and hope they enjoy their stay in our beautiful city.
Our city, just like many across the world, has been severely affected by the impact of Covid-19 and no industries have felt it more than events and the hospitality sector.
As the City of Cape Town, we are proud to partner with Miss SA and we believe it could assist in kick starting the economy again and reinvigorating the tourism sector.
