Minister Blade Nzimande attends Nosicelo Mtebeni’s funeral service, 04 Sept

The Minister of Higher Education, Science and Innovation to Join Nosicelo Mtebeni’s funeral service

The Minister of Higher Education, Science and Innovation, Dr Blade Nzimande, will join mourners as they lay to rest the remains of Nosicelo Mtebeni during her official funeral service that will take place tomorrow, the 4th September 2021.

The funeral service of Nosicelo – a 23-year-old University of Fort Hare student, will take place at Khauoe Village in Matatiele tomorrow from 8:00 in the morning.

Mtebeni’s horrific murder sent shockwaves throughout the country last month. The final-year law student’s boyfriend has pleaded guilty to murdering her, before dismembering her body.

In receiving the news of her brutal murder, Minister Nzimande was outraged by what happened and directed Higher Health to give the necessary support to the Mtebeni family, Fort Hare students and all other effected parties.

Minister Nzimande said the Department of Higher Education and Training remains committed to help create a safe Post School Education and Training (PSET) environment.

Higher Health launched a set of instruments, guidelines and protocols, with our PSET Gender-Based Violence Technical Working Group and under the guidance of the PSET Gender-Based Violence Technical Task Team, that will help turn the sectoral GBV Policy Framework into practical implementation across our campuses.

Members of the media are invited to join and be part of Nosicelo’s sendoff tomorrow.
