Yesterday, police officers of KwaMashu and Metro police, were conducting their routine duties, when they received an intelligence information about the man being sought for murder and attempted murder and also that he is in possession of illegal firearm.
They proceeded to a house at Newland East, where they found a 26-year-old man and requested to search his premises. On searching the police found a 9mm pistol with erased serial numbers as well as three rounds of ammunition under the bed mattress. He was then placed under arrest for murder, attempted murder and possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition. He will appear in the Ntuzuma Magistrate’s Court today.
It is alleged that on 2 April 2021 at 14:30, Ayanda Makhanya (28) was sitting with his friends in an outside building on Sinaka Road, B section in KwaMashu when they were approached by the suspect, who asked about his cell phone. He pulled out a firearm and fired several shots, wounding Makhanya on his left upper body. He was taken to hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries. Charges of murder and attempted murder were opened for investigation at KwaMashu police station. The suspect fled the scene and went into hiding. Yesterday, the police received information that he was at his place of residence and they arrested him.
In another operation KwaMashu Trio Task Team were patrolling along Malandela Road next to a service station, when they noticed a white Corsa with two suspicious looking males and police officers stopped the vehicle. Upon searching, the police recovered a 9mm pistol with 13 rounds of ammunition from the driver. A 34-year-old suspect was then placed under arrest. He is appearing before the Ntuzuma Magistartes’ Court this morning, facing charges illegal possession of firearm and ammunition.
