Gqeberha’s K9’s ‘Bentley and Mufasa’ arrest suspected cable thieves

GQEBERHA – Our four legged K9 colleagues were quick to react and secure the arrest of two suspects when their human partners could not immediately access the dense bushes yesterday afternoon.

It is alleged that on Saturday, 24 July 2021 at about 16:00, K9 members received and responded to information of suspects busy digging up cable behind the cemetery in Humewood. Due to the denseness of the bush, patrol dogs Bentley and Mufasa were released to locate the unknown number of suspects. Bentley apprehended the first suspect that was still in the trench busy digging and Mufasa apprehended the second suspect. Digging utensils were confiscated.

The suspects aged 57 and 58-years- old were detained on charges relating to the Criminal Matters Amendment Act 2015. (Act 18 of 2015) tampering, damaging or destroying of essential infrastructure. They will appear in the Gqeberha magistrate court on Monday 26 July 2021.
