Observant members attached to the Flying Squad, acted on their suspicion in the early hours of Wednesday morning, 2021-05-26 at 01:10 and approached two males whilst busy with routine patrols.
The members drove down Ruimte Road when they noticed the two suspicious looking males. As they approached, one of the suspects dropped an object into a nearby premises in full view of the police members. The members stopped and searched the two men and also entered the premises to locate what was discarded by them.
One 9mm Vector pistol with six rounds of ammunition were found and confiscated. Two males, aged 36 and 21 were arrested and detained.
Once charged they will appear at the Athlone Magistrate court on a charge of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
In an unrelated matter on Wednesday, 2021-05-26 members of Crime Intelligence in conjunction with Overberg Anti-Gang Unit were conducting operations in Siyanzanzela, Grabouw. Their target was a wanted person involved in robberies and extortion.
At approximately 00:30 information was received of a person in possession of illegal firearms at Siyanyanzela, Grabouw. The information was followed up by the members and they found one Browning Brevete 7.65mm pistol and one unknown 9mm pistol in a bag behind a ceiling board including five 9mm rounds.
A 25-year-old male was arrested for possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition without a license. The suspect will appear at Grabouw Magistrates court on Thursday, 2021-05-27.
All these firearms will be send to ballistics for analysis.
