DURBAN – It is alleged that on 21 May 2021 at 21:00, a group of armed suspects entered a tavern situated in Khokhwane area under Taylors Halt policing precinct outside Pietermaritzburg.

The suspects fired a shot but no one sustained injuries. At gunpoint, they took cash, cellphones and liquor before fleeing the scene in their getaway vehicle. A case of business robbery was opened for investigation at Taylors Halt SAPS.

On 25 May 2021, information was received by Boston SAPS and an operation was put in place to search for the suspects involved. Taylors Halt police officers were also notified and they joined the operation. The operation yielded positive results when a total of five suspects aged between 23 and 40 were placed under arrest. The suspects were arrested at KwaMadlala area. 

Two illegal firearms with 11 rounds of ammunition were seized from the arrested suspects. A vehicle that was used in the commission of an offence was impounded by police for further investigation. All five suspects appeared before the Pietermaritzburg Magistrates’ Court yesterday. They were all remanded in custody.
