SAPS Kwazakele strengthens relations to fight gender-based violence
In the high spirit and determination of fighting gender-based violence, SAPS Kwazakele, has embarked on strengthening relations between various stakeholders who are directly involved in ending the scourge of crimes against women and children. The programme was held at Senzangakhona Community Hall, Kwazakhele today.
This information sharing session aimed at highlighting the challenges encountered by Gender-Based Violence and Femicide (GBV) victims in the Kwazakele Policing precinct.
The various stakeholders such as the Community Policing Forum (CPF), Department of Community Safety, Department of Social Development and the non-profit organization known as Family and Marriage Society of South Africa (FAMSA) were also in attendance.
The Station Commander of Kwazakele, Brigadier Lindelwa Vellem welcomed all present and extended her appreciation for their unwavering commitment. ’These sessions offer us opportunities as different stakeholders to get together and discuss issues of a common interest regarding the safety of our communities. There are a high number of cases relating to GBV in Kwazakele and based on these statistics we need to increase the level of preventative strategies in a bid to discourage the occurrences of these particular crime categories. The theme adopted by our station is ‘Don’t stay in the valley of calamity ……pass through.’
Major General Zithulele Dladla who represented the Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Liziwe Ntshinga, highlighted the importance of team work. In his address he stated, ‘I wish to acknowledge the commitment of our partners in the fight against crime, and to remind everyone that initiatives of this nature indicates our responsibility towards our communities. Team work is key, let us stand together in fighting all crimes against women and children,’ he concluded.
Various other speakers reiterated that commitment, working together and exposing the perpetrators will definitely result in ending gender-based violence.
