POTCHEFSTROOM – Kanana Police nabbed two suspects aged 28 and 49 after they were allegedly found in possession of counterfeit money amounting to R42 400-00 on Saturday, 7 August 2021. The duo was caught after police received a tip-off about a person who was allegedly seen with fake notes at Kanana Township near Klerksdorp.
Police acted swiftly and went to the suspects’ shop to investigate. Upon arrival, they found two suspects and ultimately searched the shop where they discovered the money. The suspects were arrested after failing to account for the fake notes. They are expected to appear in the Orkney Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, 10 August 2021, for possession of counterfeit money.
The Provincial Commissioner of North West, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena, thanked members of the community for working together with the police in exposing the suspects as part of cleaning the streets of Kanana. He said further that police cannot fight crime alone and that it is the responsibility of the community to assist in the fight against crime as it happened in this particular incident.
