The City of Cape Town’s Mayoral Committee Member for Human Settlements, Councillor Malusi Booi, and other dignitaries today, 8 June 2021, handed over title deeds to beneficiaries of the City’s Masiphumelele Phase 4 housing project. The handover of title deeds is an important part of the City’s efforts to enable redress and transformation.
Beneficiaries, including Ms Tanti Livia Khulukazi (aged 74, pictured), from the City’s Masiphumelele Phase 4 housing project were delighted when they received their title deeds earlier today. A total of 60 beneficiaries of this project received their title deeds.
‘Receiving the deed to your own home is of great value. A title deed is more than just a piece of paper. Our beneficiaries, who were previously denied access to property ownership, now have tangible proof that they are homeowners. It becomes proof of the asset and empowers beneficiaries to use the asset for leverage where possible and when necessary, and to one day transfer ownership to their children.
‘It is understandably an emotional moment for our beneficiaries as a title deed is proof of ownership. It was a wonderful occasion to celebrate with them today. We wish our beneficiaries well for the future.
‘The City will continue to ensure that more property owners receive their title deeds. The City remains committed to building an inclusive city, unlocking opportunities and enabling redress,’ said Councillor Booi.
