The Water and Sanitation Department needs to urgently insert a control valve on the water supply main leading off the 750mm diameter bulk water main to Rustdal, Eerste River and Blue Downs. This requires the shutdown of the bulk water main to allow for the work to be done safely from 20:00 on Monday, 21 June 2021 until 04:00 on Tuesday, 22 June 2021.
The installation of the control valve will reduce the extent of water outages associated with testing or assessment of this pipe in future. Installation of the control valve will however result in disruption of the water supply to Rustdal, Eerste River and Blue Downs during this period.
Residents are advised to store water upfront in clean, sealed containers for use during this period and are also requested to ensure that all taps are left closed to prevent water loss and/or damage if the supply is restored earlier than expected.
Careful consideration was done in the planning of this work to minimise the impact on the residents in these areas.
The City regrets any inconvenience caused, but it is imperative that the City enhances its water supply infrastructure to benefit its consumers.
