DURBAN: The crackdown on criminal business forums in Kwazulu-Natal continues and police have teams in place to respond swiftly when reports of intimidation are received. On 5 August 2021 at 12:00, a shop owner was at his business premises with his colleagues at Dr Pixley ka Seme Street as they were renovating the shop.
The group who are from a well-known business forum in Kwazulu-Natal entered the premises and demanded that the storeowner employ their workforce for all future renovations. They threatened to harm the complainants if they continue with the renovations. It is alleged that the group informed the shop owner that no shop will operate until they utilise their services.
Police received a report regarding the incident and Durban Central police officers proceed to the said business premises and arrested two suspects aged between 30 and 42 for intimidation and extortion. The 42-year-old suspect was profiled and it was established that he had outstanding traffic summons to the value of R990. The arrested suspects will appear in the Durban Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, 10 August 2021.
