Anti-Gang Unit continues to reduce illegal firearms on the streets of Western Cape

WESTERN CAPE – Intelligence driven operations by members of the Anti-Gang Unit in Cape Town yielded excellent results in retrieving firearms and ammunition in Strand.

Yesterday morning at about 08:30, members received information about a suspect on his way to dispose of a firearm, and pursued the matter. When the members arrived at the address in 12th Street, Strand, they found an unknown male in the shack, trying to hide an object under the bed. The suspect tried to evade the police members but he was brought under control. A loaded 9mm pistol was confiscated. The 21-year-old man and a 20-year-old female were arrested and detained.

In an unrelated matter at about 16:45, the police members received information pertaining to an armed suspect walking down Petunia Avenue. As the members approached the suspect, they searched him and found a loaded 7,65 pistol in his possession. The 24-year-old male was arrested and detained.

Once charged the suspects are expected to appear in the Strand Magistrate court on charges of possession of unlicensed and prohibited firearms.
