Anti-gang unit arrest drug peddler and seize drugs: Bethelsdorp

GQEBERHA – The scourge of drugs continue to plague our society, killing our youth and destroying families therefore as law enforcement we need to work tirelessly to decisively deal with this scourge.

On Monday evening, 7 June 2021 at about 23:40, Anti-Gang Unit members received and immediately followed up on information of a vehicle heading from Mthatha to Gqeberha with a large consignment of dagga. The members tactically waited for the Toyota Quantum between Kinklebos, Colchester and Port Of Ngqura. At about 23:40, the vehicle was spotted approaching Kinklebos and was pulled over in Colchester. A 35-year-old female was found in possession of over 7kgs of dagga. The estimated street value is R120 000.

The woman was detained on a charge of dealing in dagga and is expected to appear in court soon.

In another unrelated incident, during the early hours of this morning, 8/06 AGU members also confiscated tik, mandrax and cocaine at a house in Voisen Street in Gelvandale. At about 02:45, members followed up on information and searched the house. A total of 34 packets of tik, 4 mandrax tablets and 2 packets of cocaine were seized. The estimated street value of the drugs is R3100. No arrest was made.

Acting Nelson Mandela Bay District Commissioner, Brig Thandiswa Kupiso firmly stated that “in order to win the war against drugs, we need to have a proactive approach. We will be strengthening our operations focusing on combatting drug trafficking across our towns. We appreciate the ‘tip offs’ from the communities and we urge them to work with the police so that together we can deal a decisive blow to this scourge.”
