MPUMALANGA – Members of the Hawks’ Serious Corruption Investigation in Mpumalanga is seeking assistance in establishing the whereabouts of the alleged drug dealer, Mayibongwe Masina (26) originally from Swaziland (Malindi Pigg’s Peak).
It is alleged that on 12 April 2020, members of Jossefsdal Police Station stopped and searched a vehicle which was with three occupants, driving from Swaziland to South Africa. Upon the search inside the vehicle, dagga with a street value of R12 000-00 was found and suspects who were passengers admitted that the dagga belongs to them. The suspects were arrested and taken to Barberton Police Station where they were later released on bail.
The matter was transferred to the Hawks’ Serious Corruption Investigation team for further probe. During the investigation, it was established that the vehicle which was used belongs to Constable Bhekumuzi Evans Dlamini (27), stationed at Barberton SAPS who was the driver on the day in question.
The investigation also revealed that the two suspects were allegedly hired by the Constable to smuggle dagga from Swaziland to South Africa. The investigation linked the Constable with the crime scene and summoned to court. The accused was arrested and appeared in Barberton Magistrates’ Court on 09 December 2020 where he was released on a R1000-00 bail and the case was postponed to be joined with the other two accused who were arrested for dealing in dagga.
Dlamini and one of the suspects, Sizwe Mkhonza (29) appeared in court but the other suspect, Mayibongwe Masina (26) evaded court. The warrant of arrest was issued against Masina whilst the case was postponed to 25 May 2021 for further investigation. Dlamini and Mkhonza appeared in court today and the court instructed the investigation team to go and look for Masina.
Anyone with information which can assist in locating Masina is requested to contact the investigating officer, Detective Captain Livhuwani Dzaudzau on 071 481 3267. All information will be treated with confidentiality.
