PRETORIA – The Hawks’ Serious Corruption Investigation in Silverton together with Crime Intelligence Unit conducted a sting operation in Temba, north of Pretoria yesterday, 21 June 2021, where they arrested three men for alleged corruption and extortion.

It is alleged that the suspects, Lucky Molefe (37), an Information Officer from the Department of Health along with his accomplices, Thato Maphutha (34), and Tebogo Sidwell Matjila (44), denied access to the contractors on site in order to complete the project.

They allegedly demanded an amount of R10 000 from a prominent businessman based in Pretoria, in order for him to complete his construction project at the Department of Health site in Temba.

A swift response from the investigation team resulted in the apprehension of the trio at Temba Service Centre yesterday. Police recovered the R10 000 entrapment money in cash.

The trio appeared in the Temba Magistrate’s Court today and were granted R2000 bail each. The case is postponed to 29 July 2021 for further investigation.
