A joint crime prevention yielded results as police managed to apprehend seven undocumented persons, whilst one male aged 45 was apprehended for unlawful possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

On Thursday morning 17 June 2021, Selosesha police along with Bloemfontein Mounted Unit went on foot patrol around grazing fields near Rooifontein Trust where they conducted stop and search operations. During the operation police managed to confiscate a revolver as a shepherd went to his place in Mokwena to show police his passport.

Whilst at the house, the 45 year-old man handed police his passport from the wardrobe, but vigilant police noticed three live rounds. They searched the wardrobe and found a revolver with one bullet covered with a plastic bag. The man was arrested apprehended for being in possession of an illegal firearm. All suspects are expected to appear before Thaba Nchu Magistrates’ Court soon.

The confiscated firearm will be sent for ballistic testing to determine whether it was not used in the commission of crime.
