The City’s Water and Sanitation Department had to temporarily shut down the operations at its Helderberg water treatment plant which feeds the Hillcrest Reservoir in Somerset West. This could impact the high-lying areas in the Helderberg and residents in these areas may possibly experience reduced water pressure and minimal disruption. Read more below:

Alternate water supply has been re-routed to the Hillcrest reservoir in the meantime, but residents are kindly requested to reduce their water consumption during this period to reduce strain on the system until normal operation can be restored.  This will help minimise the extent of disruption.

The Helderberg water treatment plant is planned to be back in operation by Thursday, 8 July 2021, once the replacement of a faulty valve on the pipeline has been completed.

The City regrets any inconvenience caused.
