Accused appear in court for possession of pangolin

POTCHEFSTROOM: A 42-year-old Onneile Monnanyane appeared before the Ganyesa Magistrates’ Court today for contravention of the National Environmental Management: Biodiversity Act, 2004 (NEMBA) (Act No. 10 of 2004). He was granted R2000.00 bail and the next court appearance will be on 3 September 2021.

The accused’s court appearance emanates from his apprehension on Saturday, 10 July, at Tseng Village, Morokweng, for possession of a pangolin. That was after a multi-disciplinary team comprising of members of K9 and officials from Nature Conservation acted swiftly on a tip-off and intercepted the accused. As a result, the accused was arrested after failing to account for the possession of the pangolin, valued at R60 000.00.
